Talk about timing!
Isan Diaz made his first Major League start last night, lining out for the Miami Marlins against the New York Mets. To mark the occasion, as they do in baseball, a TV reporter found his parents in the stands to have a word about their son's big day.
The usual "proud day" guff didn't last too long in this case though, as Isan immediately knocked one out of the park, and his family absolutely lost their shit, understandably.
"DID WE JUST HOMER OFF DEGROM?!"
@diaz_isan's PUMPED-UP dad was mid-interview when his guy took a Cy Young winner DEEP for his 1st hit in his MLB debut. 🥺 pic.twitter.com/rOwjYdjr01— Miami Marlins (@Marlins) August 5, 2019
The Mets' pitcher Jacob deGrom won the Cy Young award last year, recognised as the best pitcher in the National League, and is seen as one of the top "aces" in the league. To hit him out of the park in your first ever game is beyond belief and made the moment all the more special for the Diaz family.
