It's the most famous sports channel in the world that does not exist, but for one day only next week ESPN 8 - The Ocho will be live on the air.
Made famous by the commentary team of Cotton McKnight and Pepper Brooks in the 2004 movie DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story, the station will finally get it's place on the airwaves for 24 hours on Tuesday (August 8th, in place of ESPN's university sports channel ESPNU.
According to ESPN's press release, the station will only be broadcast for a day (8/8) and nothing more is planned in the short-term.
The faux network will feature a line-up of unconventional sporting events ranging from Disc Golf to Ultimate Trampoline Dodgeball and Firefighters World Challenge playing off the mantra highlighted in the movie: “Bringing you the Finest in Seldom Seen Sports”.
Among the sports that will be broadcast include Kabaddi, Trampoline Dodgeball, Ultimate Frisbee and Disc Golf, with the channel running for 24 hours, from midnight on August 8th, before the return of college sports on August 9th.
There's still no word if Cotton McKnight and Pepper Brooks will be commentating on any of the events, but it will be a fun 24 hours for fans of obscure sports.
