Enda Kenny playing basketball is probably just as you imagine. The Taoiseach could have done with a few tips from fellow Mayo man Aidan O'Shea.
It was fairly common knowledge during Barack Obama's presidency of the US that he was fond of the odd game of pickup basketball when the opportunity arose. General consensus was that Obama was pretty handy.
Unfortunately the same can't be said for Ireland's leader. It's understandable, in fairness. Mayo is a place of great tradition but basketball cannot yet be included among it; the joy of an 'Alley-oop' is yet to fully hit the streets of Westport and Castlebar.
Enda Kenny was demonstrating his basketball skills at the opening of Sport Ireland's new National Indoor Arena at Abbottstown. The crowd parted to allow him to do his thing - perhaps execute a casual 'double crossover', maybe leap like a salmon to powerfully dunk said ball into the net...but Enda elected to play it safe, and go for the simple 'one-handed repeated bounce'.
He was doing well until he resorted to what anyone who is truly terrible at basketball can relate to - the old, familiar slappity-slap of anyone who has rarely haunted graced a basketball court.
We've all been there, in fairness.

Apart from Enda's no-show in the basketball skills department it was a brilliant day for sport in Ireland as the new indoor arena will play host to athletes from over 20 sports. The extensive indoor facilities include an athletics track and a gymnastics centre.
Sport Ireland put up this video regarding the new centre, and it looks pretty phenomenal. Hopefully it will inspire a new generation of Irish athletes.
