Daniel Bryan's appearances in the ring have been sporadic over the last 22 months. In total he has seen action for three months in that period.
The last time that he actually wrestled was back in April when he sustained a concussion during a tag match.
So, it's not a major surprise to see the 34-year-old announce his retirement.
Bryan cited 'medical reasons' on Twitter as the rationale for him calling it a day.
He added that on tonight's WWE Raw he will expand a little bit further regarding his thinking.
Due to medical reasons, effective immediately, I am announcing my retirement. Tonight on Raw, I'll have a chance to elaborate. #gratitude
