Comedian Rich Hall, when meditating before a British audience on the differences between the UK and America, said that 'Americans don't have beliefs, they have bumper stickers', citing one that said 'Jesus is my airbag'.
He is wrong, of course. Americans have a number of staunch beliefs. One is in the versatility of cheese. A second is the belief that their major sports are as much a theatre for enormous displays of public affection. Chief among these are marriage proposals.
Most baseball games by such proposals, and last night's Yankee's game was beguiled by such an event. Sadly, it went awry, as the video below will show:
