Shocking news from Boston this morning as reports from the US have confirmed that former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has died in prison over night. Hernandez had been serving a life sentence without parole for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. According to a statement released to ESPN by the Massachusetts maximum security prison which housed him, Hernandez died this morning at 4.07am local time.

Hernandez was a University of Florida graduate who was one of the best tight ends in the NFL between 2010-2013. His involvement in the killing of Odin Lloyd ended his career, and despite winning an appeal last week against some of the original charges he was convicted of, American legal experts say it was highly unlikely he would ever be free from prison.
UPDATE: One of Hernandez's representatives have strongly denied the claim that Hernandez took his own life.
Absolutely no chance he took his own life. Chico was not a saint, but my family and I loved him and he would never take his own life.
