It's been a long, long time since we've had an NBA star to call our own here in Ireland.
We're open to correction, but Dublin born Pat Burke and his stint with the Pheonix Suns from 2005 to 2007 is the last time an Irishman set foot on an NBA court, and although his time was breif, at least he left a bit of an impression:
Well now there's a chance that a lad from Kerry could be the next Irishman to play in the NBA, as 19 year old Tralee native Cian Sullivan has put pen to paper on a five-year scholarship with NCAA Division 1 school La Salle University.
Sullivan had recently moved to the States to attend a prep-school where college scouts could get a look at him, and clearly they liked what they saw as he signed a letter of intent to attend La Salle University. The La Salle Explorers play their ball in the Atlantic 10 Conference, and made it to the NCAA Championship Sweet Sixteen in 2013, so hopefully Cian can improve his game and play regular college basketball at a high level, where he will inevitably be in the eye-line of NBA scouts.
Here he is stomping on kids in Ireland:
We wish Cian all the best, and hopefully this isn't the last time we feature a story about him on this site.
