2015 wasn't the greatest year for sports movies, although 'Southpaw' had it's moments, 'Creed' exceeded most expectations, and 'Concussion' continued to raise awareness about an ongoing problem in the NFL.
That said, 2016 looks a little brighter, and after having a trawl through the upcoming films for the year, here are five we're eagerly anticipating.
Race
Based on the incredible true story of Jesse Owens, the legendary athletic superstar whose quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrusts him onto the world stage of the 1936 Olympics, where he faces off against Adolf Hitler’s vision of Aryan supremacy.
Sweetwater
In the fall of 1950, the game of basketball changed forever when Nat "Sweetwater" Clifton entered the NBA. The story of the first African American contracted to play in the NBA.
Wood Harris (or Avon Barksdale if you watched The Wire), James Caan, and Patrick Warbuton? We're in.
Penciled in for late 2016/early 2017, here's hoping it doesn't get delayed.
Bleed For This
The inspirational story of World Champion Boxer Vinny Pazienza, who after a near fatal car crash, which left him not knowing if he'd ever walk again, made one of sports most incredible comebacks.
Miles Teller plays the lead role in this one, and after his excellent performance in 'Whiplashed' we're majorly interested.
Goon: Last Of The Enforcers
The sequel to the underrated slapstick Ice Hockey comedy 'Goon' which came out in 2012, fans of the first one will be highly anticipating this.
Battle Of The Sexes
A movie about the historic match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs, with Emma Stone as Billie and Steve Carell as Bobby?
Honestly that just sounds amazing. We can't wait for the first trailer to drop for this.
