Manti Te'o heroically lead his unheralded Notre Dame college football team from kick off in Dublin, through an unbeaten regular season, to the National Championship game. Every pundit lauded his leadership, and most projected him to a top ten pick in the NFL draft this year. His legend grew in September when he brushed off the death of his gran, then his girlfriend in a short space of time to bring the Fighting Irish back to the top table of NCAA football.
Except, according to this Deadspin investigation, his girlfriend didn't die. Or even exist. Maybe.
Yeah, you read that correctly. A leading NFL prospect may have lied t the media about his girlfriend having leukemia and being involved in a fatal accident.
The story is, at the least, bizarre and could become a bigger story than Lance Armstrong's admissions in the College Football crazy USA.
