Leigh Halfpenny's days at Toulon could be numbered if he fails to recover to full match fitness.
The Wales and Lions player was sidelined towards the end of last season with a shoulder injury and has not played a single game for Toulon since moving there from the Cardiff Blues this summer because of a recurring groin injury.
It is being reported that Halfpenny may require surgery on his groin to fix the problem, much to the chagrin of frustrated Toulon president Mourad Boudjellal.
Today, we must address this issue because we need a world class goalkicker. We’re awaiting the medical update.
It would have been another two or three weeks. But the problem that we have now is that we think he may have arrived at Toulon with that injury. Now we have the impression that yes, he was injured when he signed for Toulon.
If this is the case, we haven’t ruled out terminating his contract.
Boudjellal added that he doesn't want Toulon to become a rehabilitation centre for Halfpenny to build himself up in preparation for international duty.
We pay enough for players. We don’t feel like preparing Halfpenny for Wales just for the Rugby World Cup.
We’re conducting an investigation. I will know the whys and hows this week.
