Jonny Sexton revealed yesterday that he felt like leaving Racing Métro after he made the move from Leinster last year.

In conversation with Keith Wood on BBC, the fly-half revealed that he felt like "walking in on Monday and telling them I'm going home", while other performances left him feeling that he could be there forever.

He conceded that an excess of playing time, including playing thirteen consecutive games after the Lions tour, affected his performance during the Autumn Tests, but has been "managed better" by his club since then, starting fewer games and taking some time off.

He told Wood that it was the everyday aspects of moving to a new country that proved more difficult than settling into club life: "It's pretty easy to settle into the club, because everybody's trying to make you feel at home", but for simple things like going to the shops, or filling up the car he said "everything was just a stress, it was tough going at the start".

About his improving grasp of French, he said: "It's getting there, I did my first press conference yesterday after the game, so that was a good step for me".

In relation to the decision of Jamie Heaslip and Seán O'Brien to stay with Leinster, Sexton said that "one of them" came to him for advice, but did not reveal which one it was.

"I think it's great that they're staying and fair play to them, they (the IRFU) really stepped up to the plate with the two lads. I think that it's important for Irish rugby, for the provinces, for the national team that guys stay... I sound like a hypocrite but that's the bottom line".

A slight dig at the IRFU regarding his own case, maybe?
