Bulls captain Flip van der Merwe (sounds like the first name of a very attractive blonde on Home and Away) got a 3-week suspension for punching the Irish sounding Waratahs prop Paddy Ryan at the weekend.

In the 75th minute of the Waratahs 19-12 win, van der Merwe swung his arm at the twice-capped Australian prop.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the chair of the disciplinary committee said:

On the balance of probabilities... van der Merwe did strike Ryan's nose with his hand, arm or fist but that no injury was sustained

But due to the player's good character, lengthy professional playing career and his relatively clean disciplinary record, I was satisfied that the five-week entry point should be reduced to three weeks.

3 weeks seems like a real let off to me.
