After a gruelling Six Nations campaign with Ireland, Rory Best was due a week off following Ireland's title-sealing win against Scotland. Rather than watch Ulster take on Cardiff at Ravenhill on TV six days later, Best decided to lend a hand.
He filled a role usually reserved for a less senior member of the squad and relayed messages between the sideline on the players on the pitch.
Best told UlsterRugby.com:
It’s always good to have a senior player on the side of the pitch. You have the earpiece in and you have to pass on messages. Obviously I have experience and I know what people want to hear and what people don’t want to hear coming on. If I could help and impart a bit of knowledge in that role then hopefully it helped in a small way. It was good to be back involved. For the guys to win and to win with a bonus point was fantastic.
