The Ashamed Irish Twitter Reaction To The McGregor-Aldo Press Conference

Things have cooled down now at the Convention Centre as the cameras have departed and the pint-swilling fans have drifted off. I often wonder at this point whether McGregor and Aldo head backstage, shake each others hands and say 'thank God that bullshit is over'.

The 'scenes' witnessed at the press conference included

- McGregor nabbing the belt from under Aldo's nose

- An American marketing student grabbing the microphone and asking Dana White for an internship

- McGregor, in his other guise as Irish Minister for Sport, saying we need to build an 150,000 seater stadium (as with Donagh O'Malley announcing free education in 1967, it appears he did not consult his cabinet colleagues before making this announcement)

- And young Nate 'the great' Kelly making a name for himself

The ceaseless baiting of the Brazilian world champ has now ended, Dana White can whip off the Ireland jersey and everyone can chill out again.

The reaction to the event has been far from universally positive, with the words 'cringey' and 'embarrassing' being prominent among the commentary.
