It may not have been the biggest news to break in these parts overnight but, for Formula 1 fans, the news that Sebastian Vettel is leaving Red Bull for Ferrari is no less monumental than a certain football manger leaving his job in the north west.
In a statement on formula1.com, Red Bull announced the departure of the four time world champion and confirmed that he would be replaced by Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat.
Sebastian Vettel has advised us that he will be leaving Infiniti Red Bull Racing at the end of the 2014 season. We want to warmly thank Sebastian for the incredible role he has played at Infiniti Red Bull Racing for the last six years.
As we wish Sebastian well in the next stage of his career, we also look to the future with excitement, as the vacancy makes way for the next generation of Red Bull racers.
We're pleased to announce that Daniel (Ricciardo) will be joined in the team for 2015 by another rising star from the Junior Programme, Daniil Kvyat.
Team Principal Christian Horner later confirmed that the 27 year old would begin next season with Ferrari after six hugely successful years with with Red Bull.
Obviously Ferrari have made him a very attractive offer. I don't think he's taken the decision lightly. He was very emotional. Everybody was emotional.
If it's his desire to be somewhere else, it's not right to stand in his path. We've had some great times He will still be close to our hearts at Red Bull, but on January 1st, he will be a competitor.
Vettel's move to Ferrari will most likely see him replace Fernando Alonso who has been linked with a return to McLaren.
