Referee Jerin Valel came in for some criticism following UFC 184. He refereed both Roan Carneiro vs Mark Munoz and Jake Ellenberger vs Josh Koscheck.

Both fights were ended by choke submissions but Valel appeared to allow the fights go on longer than necessary.

The second fight was most notable because Koscheck began foaming at the mouth due to Ellenberger's north-south choke.
