Conor McGregor Soars UFC Rankings After Demolishing Dustin Poirier

The UFC rankings have been updated following the incredible UFC 178 event in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Conor McGregor continued his meteoric ascent of the featherweight rankings after his stunning first round knockout of Dustin Poirier in what was christened ‘the people’s main event’ by MMA journalist Ariel Helwani. McGregor moved up four places to steal the Diamond’s number five spot. Meanwhile, Poirier dropped two places to seventh causing Dennis Bermudez and Nik Lentz who moved back to eighth and ninth respectively.

Former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz made the biggest leap in the latest update. Cruz climbed from tenth to the number two spot in the rankings following an outstanding 61-second knockout win over Takeya Mizugaki in the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The Dominator also earned a chance to reclaim his belt from newly installed champ TJ Dillashaw after his emphatic performance.

Yoel Romero moved up four places to sixth in the middleweight rankings after his controversial victory over Tim Kennedy while Donald Cerrone and Eddie Alvarez also made a jump following their fights at UFC 178.
