Offaly u21 manager Dermot Hogan has sadly died due to injuries sustained after a fall while painting a shed on the family farm at his home in Coolderry, Co Tipperary yesterday.

Hogan was killed after the roof he was standing on gave way, resulting in serious head injuries.

Offaly county board chairman Padraig Boland spoke to the Independent about the tragedy, saying 'His passion and enthusiasm for Offaly hurling was simply infectious,' before adding:

He loved to talk and hurling was the usual topic. He loved his hurling and will be a huge loss to Offaly hurling. Whatever loss we have pales into insignificance for that of his family.

He was a small man in physicality, but big in heart.
