It's safe to say Brian Cody doesn't agree with the old sporting maxim that players should be prepared to die to win a game. He is quoted in today's Examiner responding to Joe Brolly's claims that inter-county players are indentured slaves, the latest in a long list of people disputing a claim made by Brolly. Cody list several reasons why he believes Brolly is wrong, however it is his ideology as to what players should be willing to do to win a game that made for the most interesting reading.

People say going out in a match that ‘we’re prepared to die to win this game’ but that’s a dangerous thing to say. You should never say you’re prepared to die to win. You should always be prepared to kill to win a game. That’s the difference.

Cody's sides have always given their all on the field,  ruthless almost to a fault. With the attitude implied by the quote above it's not hard to see why, with ten All-Irelands under his belt, several coming after the county had been written off, his hunger appears as great as ever.
