The Polish Embassy Gives Its Verdict On Irish Culture

Its ten years since Poland joined the European Union and in that time many Poles have made their home in Ireland. To celebrate this, the good people of the Polish embassy in Dublin have released this video, in which they compliment us on our "unusual sports", our "easy to read books", and our "healthy diet."

Now we could take this video in the fond, playful and tongue in cheek spirit in which it was put together. But fuck that.

No, this requires a quivering, furious Eamon De Valera to Churchill style response, or perhaps even a boycott of Polish goods. We need an academic (preferably a sociologist or left-wing historian in UCD) to come forward and argue this video is worse than those Punch magazine portraits of the Irish in the nineteenth century.

I'd be surprised if someone in the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs hasn't contacted the embassy to make our displeasure known or perhaps even gone over the heads of the embassy and spoken to the Polish government directly.
