Mick Barrett, the Mayo pitch invader who required five stewards to remove him from the playing area during this year's All-Ireland semifinal replay has been banned by the GAA for his disgraceful antics.
For his attempt to confront referee Cormac Reilly in the final stages of the August 30 encounter at Limerick's Gaelic Grounds, Barrett has been banned for one year in accordance with the GAA's zero-tolerance policy on pitch invaders.
The Sun has reported today that action may also be taken against another fan (presumably this clown) who encroached on the field in the aftermath of the thriller which Kerry won by three points. None of the players on either side were charged with any misconduct.
For Barrett's offences - disruptive conduct not causing the termination of a game and misconduct deemed to have discredited the GAA - the Central Competitions Control Committee could have imposed anything from an eight week ban to outright expulsion from the organisation.
The 48-week ban handed down is considered a one year ban, because I don't know, annual leave or whatever.
