Cork hurler Damien Cahalane might have to watch the Munster hurling final on Sunday from the sidelines after picking up a freak injury in the dressing room after the provincial football final.
The Castlehaven full back stepped on a medical vial in the shower after Cork's defeat to Kerry on Sunday, causing a large cut in his heel.
Cahalane's wound required stitches and he had to leave Pairc Ui Chaoimh on crutches. The Corkman also required a tetanus shot. The gash was so deep that it needed glue stitches to stop the flow of blood.
The vial was thought to be used for his team-mate Ruairi Deane who was understood to have suffered a cruciate injury.
It would serve as a massive blow to Cork should Cahalane fail to recover in time for Sunday's crucial clash against Limerick. There is already doubt over the fitness of corner back Mark Ellis.
