If you ever won an underage league or championship then it's highly likely that your celebrations featured a parade through your village or town with everyone hanging out of car windows, jerseys aloft and horns blaring at earsplitting levels. The cup was in the lead car, chosen because it had a sunroof. This was followed by a trip to the local Londis (which sponsored the club) for some Cadet Cola and Chickatees.

The tradition is no more in Galway with county board children's officer Pat Monaghan telling The Connacht Tribune:

We have launched a safety campaign for all clubs involved in motorcade homecomings and call for an end to the practice of young children and young players hanging out of the windows of cars holding the cup and club jerseys.

It's important that team managers, club officers and parents placed interest in the safety of children and to stop such action immediately or cancel all cavalcade homecomings. All clubs are to be notified and requested to comply with the request.

We await clarification on whether or not the post-celebration refreshments are still allowed.
