It's been a bad couple of years for GAA landmarks, with Quinns in Drumcondra entering NAMA and now Hayes Hotel in Thurles, the sacred place where Michael Cusack and few others sat down to some grub in November 1884 and afterwards found the Gaelic Athletic Association, is being sold at auction in the middle of next month.
Earlier in the year, Lar Corbett expressed an interest in buying the Hotel, along with his business partner Kevin Coppinger and Boxer Matthew Macklin.
Former GAA President and current Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly had backed the call, remarking that it would be wonderful 'to have a real GAA hero involved in it.' Last year, Kelly had called for the building to be preserved.
However, nothing has come of this and it will go to auction. The reserve price, according the Irish Examiner, is between €450,000 and €500,000.
The people who buy it will probably knock it and turn it into a Wetherspoons.
