All-Ireland winner Nicky O'Connell has returned to the Clare panel following a departure amid controversy last month. Both he and Davy O'Halloran left the squad back in March.

In an interview with the Irish Times, O'Halloran claimed that being subjected to 'humiliating' punishment was the reason for the departure.

According to today's Irish Independent, Nicky O'Connell has distanced himself from those claims and apologised to the panel after manager Davy Fitzgerald held no objection to his return.

O'Connell will be remembered for playing a key part in Clare's 2013 All-Ireland win. It was him that played the pass to Domhnall O'Donovan for the equalising point 'Holy Moses' point against Cork in the drawn All-Ireland final.
