Yaya Toure has responded to Paul Scholes' criticism of his performance during Manchester City's defeat away to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night by saying Scholes has gone from being a good guy to " a bit dirty". The Ivory Coast international came under fire from numerous pundits for his less than interested performance in Munich but it was Scholes who was most scathing in his Independent column:
The amount of time I saw opponents get in behind him in the game in Munich was quite remarkable. He just did not look interested. Alongside him, Fernandinho is having to do the work of two players defensively and against Bayern that was always going to cause City problems.
Toure took the Liam Brady route of questioning Scholes' Walter White-esque transformation from consumate say nothing pro to shock factor columnist. Speaking to BBC's Football Focus he said:
“We never hear something about Paul Scholes when he was a player, but now he is starting to talk, He was very quiet. I was hearing he is a good guy, but now he’s starting to be a bit dirty"
Toure also went on to rubbish suggestions that he demanded a birthday cake last season and question as to why people made a big deal out of it (Perhaps because his agent talked about it on national TV?)
“I was quite surprised about why the people react about that. How seriously they take it.
“I’m a father. I have a few kids and sometimes I miss their birthday. I don’t care about my birthday.”
