The Wisdom of Stan
Dundalk’s most famous son(outside of those who have recently decommisioned) is Steve Staunton. He now resides in Darlington, England where he manages the Quakers who are perched in the final position of the Football League, so the only way is up.
Frustratingly things aren’t going Staunton’s way of late and they have only won 4 games this season with their last defeat coming after going up 2-0.
Steve took it upon himself to give the Darlington lads a reality check, he claimed on Saturday that “For 80 minutes that was our best performance, but I have told the boys that games last for 90 to 95 minutes. Their goals were preventable, even though a couple of them were great strikes.”
You see Staunton has come in for a lot of bad press over the years due to some terrible results as a manager but if he is being dealt a team that don’t even know how long a match is, you just gotta feel for the man.
