Shay Given’s Greatest Save For Ireland?

Perhaps there are better ones but here’s the argument for this save from the summer of 2005:

  • Zidane took the shot
  • The wall hardly jumped
  • Given not only had to get a hand on the ball, but he needed to hit it with enough force that it wouldn’t just bounce down over the goal-line.
  • He was nearly impaled by the goalpost.
