Danish striker, Nicki Bille Nielsen, descended into a rage which saw him rip his shirt apart after not getting a penalty for one of the most blatant fouls that you will ever see. And the culprit behind the whole fiasco was a Norwegian born, Irish goalkeeper named, Sean McDermott.
McDermott's side, Sandnes Ulf, were leading 1-0 against Rosenborg when a ball was played toward his box. The Irish keeper went to claim the ball but dropped it straight at the feet of Nielsen, that's him with the Ian Madigan haircut (I'm sure they call it that in Norway too). With the striker about to gain possession of the ball and no keeper home, McDermott got desperate. He grabbed the striker's leg and wouldn't let go for dear life.
Inexplicably the referee did not award a penalty to Rosenborg, sending Nielsen into a shirt ripping range which saw him receive his marching orders for a second yellow card.
McDermott has played for Ireland at both U-17 and U-19 levels and though he was born in Norway has chosen to represent Ireland as his father is from Donegal. He was released by Arsenal last summer and was snapped up by his current club, Sandnes Ulf.
