Mourinho's Custard Creams And 11 Other Cringeworthy Interviews

So last night we saw TV3's Trevor Welch present Jose Mourinho with some custard creams, to the bemusement of the Portuguese. Obviously, Trevor assumed that Jose would remember their previous biscuit-related exchange, in which Mourinho rather inconsiderately had his face stuffed with custard creams after the interview had begun.

That was in 2010, of course, and Mourinho has done thousands  more post-match interviews with foreign broadcasters than Trevor has spoken to egomaniacal mindgame masters. So one can't blame Jose for not really knowing why random Irish journalist had presented him with bland-yet-addictive tea accessories.

Anway here's some more excruciating sports interview exchanges. Let us know what we've missed because there's literally hundreds of examples to pick from.

The original when Trevor met Jose

We do love Trev, but his almost lecherous "You love your custard creams, huh?" might give me night terrors for a while yet.

A bizarre exchange given in response to Venter's fine after previous post-match comments.

Frustrated Danish manager hits reporter after 4-0 loss

Not able to handle being on the end of a hammering, Ove Christensen does what many interviewees would love to do, then rather cowardly brushes it off as a 'well done' pat  on the arm.

Stewie Byrne rips into Stephen Kenny

Self-explanatory. Not painful as such, but awkward for TO'D and the RTE team, no doubt.

Davy Fitz being Davy Fitz

Pretty much every interview is the same - Davy sets himself up more defensively than an injury-ravaged Andorra at the Allianz Arena. Hilarious viewing, but for the interviewer it must be like picking up mercury with a toothpick.

Don't call Jim Everett 'Chris'

The Rams quarterback was not fond of Jim Rome repeatedly calling him 'Chris', after female tennis player Chris Evert. A bit excessive, but he does come across as a bit of a punchable sort.

Ken Griffey Jr in flying form

reminiscent of a real go-to awkward interview outside of the sporting arena..
