Video: Mourinho Threatening To Virtually Hand Premier League Title To Liverpool

When the history books look back on the rise and rise of the non-violent protest there will be two main chapters; the one on Mahatma Gandhi and the one on Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho last night has said he may rest a large number of players for their potentially title deciding clash with Liverpool on Sunday. The Chelsea manager is upset that the Premier League has left his side with such little opportunity to rest before their Champions League second leg against Atletico Madrid next Wednesday.

Speaking after the match last night Mourinho said:

The fact that the match is on Sunday, I think that puts the problem not in my hands but in the hands of those who decide the game should be Sunday, not Saturday or Friday. We represent English football and are the only [English] team in European competition.

Spain have four and give them all the conditions to try to have success. So I know what I would do. I would play the players who are not going to play on Wednesday. My priority is the Champions League. But I'm not the club. I have to speak to them.

He revealed that the injury suffered by Petr Cech last night will rule him out for the season, while John Terry will not be back unless they reach the final. Frank Lampard and John Obi Mikel will miss the second leg due to suspension.

Mourinho stopped short of categorically stating that he would rest his first team on Sunday, saying he would have to clear it with the club 'Roman and the board … everybody is above me. I work for them and have to follow what my club decides. I'm just a piece. I'm the manager, no more than that.'

Sounds like an empty threat to me.
