Mick McCarthy - You Are A Hero

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy is perhaps the last voice of reason in professional soccer.

The former Ireland manager praised Conor Sammon for scoring the winning goal and duly celebrating it in a 2-1 victory against his former club Wigan Athletic last night. Sammon only found the net once during his 18-month stint at Wigan before moving to Derby and then finding himself on loan at his current club Ipswich Town.

The Irish international celebrated his goal with great zeal in front of the away end, which marks a stark contrast to the more fashionable understated celebration that has become rampant in the sport.

Frank Lampard is one of the more recent offenders. His meek reaction to scoring a dramatic equaliser for Man City against Chelsea looked like audition to be an extra in the Walking Dead.

McCarthy admitted he completely supports his player for reacting this way. In fact, he pretty much implied that the new trend of players choosing not to celebrate a goal against their old club is nothing more than moronic posturing.

I think that's the biggest load of nonsense ever. Are you ever going to go back and play for that club?

I've had a few clubs and my club is now Ipswich. I'm not bothered who we're playing against.

If we win I'm giving it large. That's where my loyalties lie,  with Ipswich.

What a hero!
