Newcastle have agreed a fee with Paris St-Germain to sign French midfielder Yohan Cabaye, with the price expected to exceed the £20m mark. After signing him for for £4.3m in 2011, this represents another big return for Newcastle in the transfer market, though with seven goals and four assists in this seasons Premier League, he will be missed.

According to the Chronicle Live, Alan Pardew had this to say earlier in the week -"We know that we've got a club interested in Cabaye who are very wealthy and powerful. We're conscious of that, but we will be doing our best to protect Newcastle United."

"Am I confident [of retaining Cabaye]? No. I don't think any team not in a Champions League position, or fighting for a Champions League position, would be different."

"We would need to bring someone in, that's for sure. You can't lose someone of his ability and not replace him".

So Newcastle are relying on Joe Kinnear to pull one out of the bag in the next week. Nothing to worry about really.
