In what has been a frentic transfer window for Irish players, it appears that Chesterfield's Eoin Doyle, the top scorer in English football this season, will be on his way to Sheffield United. The Blades have submitted a £600k bid for the Dubliner according to The Independent. The fee could rise to over £1m should Sheffield United gain promotion this season.

The fee and the destination may come as a surprise to some with suggestions of a move to the Championship for a fee closer to the £2 million mark being regularly touted this transfer window. Sheffield United currently sit behind Chesterfield in 9th position in the League One table, just one point off the play-off spots. However, they have the reputation and the financial muscle that Chesterfield are lacking so a move to Nigel Clough's side would not be a huge surprise.

In related news, Paul Corry, formerly of UCD and now of Sheffield Wednesday, may be making the journey to Chesterfield. He has just six months left on his Owls contract and Chesterfield hope to sign him on loan, subject to a settlements being agreed between the clubs. The two cities are just 13.4 miles apart so neither Irishman would need to move too far.
